Album Reviews :: Skinny Alley: ESCAPE THE ROAR [VIRGIN RECORDS]
By The Ironman
‘Escape the Roar’ isn’t exactly the kind of album that defines the term ‘ground-breaking’, but nevertheless is a very listenable album which provides a nice blend of acoustic and electric guitars and synthesizers, and vocals you would love to sing along with. The songwriting on this album is more than decent, and most of the songs stick in your mind, due to their ‘catchy’ nature, but their resemblance to Irish rockstars The Cranberries is overwhelming. After listening to this album, if I didnt know better, I’d say I was listening to an old, unreleased Cranberries album.
Vocalist Jayashree Singh has modelled her voice to sound almost exactly like Delores’. “Universal Plan” has an infectious chorus which goes “If you look for the truth, you will find it, Its the universal plan”. Another stand out song is “Hey Hey” which talks about how simple things are when you’re young, and how they get more and more complicated as you grow up. Priced at a modest Rs. 75, I’d recommend this for Cranberries fans, or die hard Indian Rock fans, looking for something new to listen to.
